While still in her early twenties, Cathy Owen moved to a small farm and, at the suggestion of her veterinarian, and with the help of a friendly fellow-breeder, she began to learn to breed Collie puppies. As a registered nurse, Cathy already understood some rudimentary aspects of the dog breeding process. Her subsequent extensive hands-on experience proved to be even more valuable. Soon, she began breeding Arabian horses, as well. About the same time she became a 4-H leader.

Eventually, Cathy decided to concentrate her focus on a breed of dog smaller than the Collie. Through extensive research, she became interested in Silky Terriers. Soon, she was the co-owner of a Silky Terrier show puppy. Through the auspice of her fellow co-owner (and mentor), a well-known local breeder, she soon learned the techniques necessary to present dogs in the show ring.

Breeding and showing her dogs are Cathy's greatest loves. She is involved in every aspect of the lives of the dogs she breeds- from the excitement and expectation of the day of delivery, to the placement of her puppies into good and loving homes. Even after placement, Cathy is diligent in following up with her clients. She has a deep and abiding love for all dogs, but especially for Silky Terriers. "They truly are a potato chip dog," she says knowingly. "You can't have just one."

Cathy Owen has owned and loved dogs her entire life. At every opportunity she attempts to expand her knowledge of the crafts of dog breeding and showing. It is her intention to serve as a resource, not only for lovers of Silky Terriers, but for all breeds of dogs.
